For Graduate Student (Guides, Advice and fun articles)

Some Modest advice for graduate students from Stephen C. Stearns. Very interesting articles to approach graduate life. Read this and the following article with some background of the circumstances in which they were written in.
Some acynical advice for graduate students from  Raymond B. Huey  in response to the above articles by Stearns. He explored quite an orthogonal approach to graduate school as put forward by Stearns. Though some of it seems to be put it just to make the article dramatically negating the above one.
Applying to Ph.D. Programs in Computer Science from Mor Harchol-Balter  also know popularly as Grad School Talk. It can be useful for people who have just started on the idea of going to graduate school. Most of the information is pretty basic though.
PhD Rants and Raves (Be afraid, Be very afraid) by  Yannis Smaragdakis. This is a scary account of what PhD is all about. But its good to have all point of views about something that you are going to dedicate a good portion of your life to.
The Ph.D experience by  Mihir Bellare. Though a little  too personal account, it does succeeds in painting a pretty decent and comprehensive picture of what goes on in research. The article has some embedded question which you should try and answer for yourself to understand whether research and PhD is really for you or not.

So long and thanks for the PhD! by  Ronald T. Azuma. I would say this is the best work of Ronald. Though general in nature it surprisingly has some thing other to say than most articles in this field.

The Literature Search 'Till the End of the Universe. by  Ronald T. Azuma. This article was written quite some time back and thus is a little outdated. You can find reader wondering about the times when all the literature would be on internet - fortunately for us, most of it is these days. Also the article is somewhat specific to UNC but still worth a read.

Life, the Universe, and Everything! by  Ronald T. Azuma. This article discusses how to go about tackling the oral examination for PhD. Very useful advice.

Advice for undergraduates considering graduate school by Michael Langer. You can find interesting comments on the often debated issue of Canadian universities vs US universities.

Four Golden Lessons - Advice to students at the start of their scientific careers by  Steven Weinberg. This is a short but very very interesting essays based on one of his commencement addresses. Very few articles start with a line like "When I received my undergraduate degree - about hundred years ago ....". This dude is a Noble Laureate.

Manuel Blum's Advice to a Beginning Graduate Student by Manuel Blum. A decent reading scattered with witty and funny aphorisms, poems and quotes.
Leo Esaki's 5 Don'ts for success by Leo Esaki. This is from a description of some physics conference where Leo supposedly made these comments. This dude is also a Noble Laureate.
A Day in the Life of a Grad Student (this is so funny that it'll make u fall from the chair) by Joe Wagner (not sure)
How to be a good graduate student  by Marie desJardins
Research Dictionary (real funny, I think) by Graham, Jr., C. D.,
You just might be a graduate student if... (oh so funny) by anonymous
